Ah, Spring, welcome to the Green Mountain State! Depending on where you live and the recent snowstorms that have hit the mountains, you may think my greeting to be premature, but mentally I have made the turn. Now that my skis and snowshoes have been stowed away for the year, it’s time to lighten the palette and start looking around at what’s popping up in the proverbial backyard.
Within the Roundtable I’ve had a number of exciting conversations with new members. In some cases, with new CEOs of existing member companies including: Don Baker, Vermont Market President of KeyBank; Bob Dillon, CEO of Hubbardton Forge; David Epstein, Managing Partner of TruexCullins; and Bill Shouldice, IV, CEO of Vermont Teddy Bear Company. In other cases, new additions to our fold, that now includes Joyce Judy, President of Community College of Vermont, and John Illick, CEO of ReArch Company & Technology Park. Please be sure to introduce yourself and welcome them warmly at the next membership meeting on June 13th at Basin Harbor.
And this week we are also celebrating the Best Places to Work in Vermont, featuring many of our very strong Roundtable members that have been nominated for this prestigious award including: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont; Comcast Cable; Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee; Gallagher Flynn & Co.; Green Mountain Coffee Roasters; Hickok & Boardman Financial Planning & Group Benefits; King Arthur Flour Company; Merchants Bank; Sonnax Industries, Inc.; and Vermont Energy Investment Corporation. The two-part review process includes an evaluation of each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices and demographics; and, results from an employee survey that measures the employee experience. The combined score determines the top companies and final ranking. Congratulations to you all!
As snow turns to mud season, turns to sprouting grass and budding leaves, I hope that you will also find reasons to celebrate new growth and opportunities in your companies. If you’ve got good news to share, send it along and we’ll brag for you.
